Catch-Up Bookkeeping

Definition

Bringing books that are months or years behind up to date, recording and reconciling every missing transaction so the business has current, reliable financials.

Catch-up work is about getting current; cleanup work is about fixing books that exist but are wrong. Many businesses need some of both.

The longer books stay behind, the harder it is to recover details like receipts and marketplace reports. Watch for: tax deadlines approaching with no current books, because rushed catch-up work costs more and is more error-prone.

Example

A brand that has not touched its books since January hires a bookkeeper in September. Nine months of bank, card, Shopify and Amazon activity are recorded and reconciled before monthly service begins.
